The Destroyed - Outta Control CD
This CD is a reunion of myself and J.D. Jackson of The Destroyed, a band that broke up in 1979. This is the first time we've played together since that break-up. The reunion came about after last year's success of my CD, Bert Switzer 1977-2002, that contained 14 tracks by The Destroyed from the 70s, and two with Henry Kaiser, with whom I reunite on this CD as well, for the first time since 1977. In January, Jackson contacted me about recording again as The Destroyed. I agreed and this time Jackson (formerly Joe Rainbow) not only sang but played guitar as well, since our original guitarist has a solo music career. Jackson, who lives in California, flew to Boston, where I live, in March, 2003 for the recording session. We only had one week to learn and record six new songs. Everything was recorded in three or four takes. Our intent was to make honest, creative music with no rules, and no attempt at musical perfection. We were not trying to capture the original band's sound, only to be true in spirit, and to show where we are now in 2003. The new music is Jackson and myself playing and saying whatever we feel like in any musical style we choose. Jackson is an incredible songwriter. For me, working with him is musical freedom.
My second reunion is with world-renowned guitarist Henry Kaiser who is an incredible creative guitarist and musician. Henry contacted me in May. I had not heard from him since 1977. He asked to play on a track for this CD and I was very excited. He has contributed two killer tracks.
As a bonus for those of you who liked the last bunch, I have included 10 never-before-released Destroyed tracks recorded from cassette tapes from the late 70s. Plus, even more rare tracks
are available on the website.
We are most grateful to college radio for playing the Bert Switzer CD. We are also grateful to everyone in the media who wrote positive reviews, and want to thank all our fans who supported the CD. We hope you like this one as well. Is You With Us?

The Destroyed was one of Boston's wildest punk bands during the seventies. Hated by the club owners, bouncers, other bands, and even the punk audience, The Destroyed were even banned from the notorious punk rock club, The Rathskeller. The band never rehearsed between performances. Instead, the rehearsal started when we hit the stage. Our big break came when we played to 12,000 people in Portland, Maine with the J. Geils Band. To get there, we had to escape Boston during the Blizzard of '78 driving ban. We were the only car on the road. At the show, the crowd threw bottles at us. When we refused to leave the stage after our 30-minute limit, they pulled the plug on us.

Since they couldn't pull the plug on my drums, I started playing a wild solo, refusing to leave, until I was surrounded by security. As I left, I threw my drums all over the stage. We played our last show in August 1979 on Commonwealth Avenue for Boston University. At that point, we were so wild, on and off stage, there was no way we could have continued. The last song we played that day was "The End of Time." Joey was ripping his shirt off, screaming at the top of his lungs, "It's the end of time, baby, it's the end of your mind," and every time he did, Tony and I would rip into vicious guitar and drum solos, with Joey following, screaming out anything that came into his head. It was pure punk madness. That was the last show I ever played in public. --- Bert Switzer - Drummer for The Destroyed
